Families Need Guidance Too

Dad
    and Child
From the thousands and thousands of parents who have come to the CNR for help, much has been learned. It is unlikely that new parents will come to the CNR and present a problem that other parents have not already experienced. Some may have found creative and successful solutions others allow the problems to suffocate them. What makes the difference in the two types of parents? The answer is fairly straight forward.

The successful parent has learned to make decisions regarding their handicapped child with confidence. The successful parent has learned how to use the information available to them in their child's interest. The successful parent takes care of their own needs and sees themselves as worth some effort too. Finally, the successful parent has learned how to manage time so that there is time available for spouses, other children and other important interests.

The CNR is dedicated to helping parents and family members achieve these objective because of our strong commitment to the family. However, there is yet another reason that is far more pressing. It is clear that the greater state of health that exists within a family the greater will be that families ability to meet the needs of the their handicapped loved one.

The CNR helps parents learn by giving them information, guidance and examples. The families of the children who come to us for help are our tools. The better the condition of the family, the more effective these tools will be at helping a child with a disability.
