Truly an exceptional man, Dr. Spitz is a registered genius whose intelligence has never been accurately measured. The reason is because the tests do not go high enough. As a young child in the early 30's he was chosen as one of the famous Wiz Kids. He, along with three other children were put on a panel of this famous radio show and answered phone in questions. He started his University career at the age of 12 and by the time he was 25 years old, he was a qualified pathologist, neurologist and neurosurgeon. His contributions to the world are numerous. Dr. Spitz discovered the cure for hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and performed the first successful "shut" operation in the early 50's. He was the first to perform a complete hemispherectomy (the removal of one hemisphere on the brain) and he contributed many new surgical techniques that are in common use today. His skill as a surgeon is more than matched by his clinical skills. His vast experience and diagnostic skills have been an invaluable help to the CNR children and staff. Dr. Spitz not only provides consulting services to the CNR, he has been a major influence in the development of its technology. From the inception of our service, Dr. Spitz has provided strong support and guidance to our mission. We have been fortunate to share the same building with his clinical practice and still enjoy the opportunity to consult with him when ever his extraordinary talents are needed.
