Teaching the Program Pencil Bar

Pat Unruh
All exercises and activities are taught to each family by Pat Unruh, the associate Director of the CNR and the wife of Dr. Unruh. Pat has worked at the CNR for 20 years and her experience working with families and communicating with parents has played an important part in the success of the CNR.

Each activity is prescribed by Dr. Unruh and Pat is responsible for making sure the parents know exactly how to do it well. Pat accomplishes this with explanations, drawings and demonstrations usually with the child. She then will watch over the parents as they practice and learn the various techniques.

Communication systems are set up so that parents and in some cases the patient can get answers to questions at any time. Often, families are

surprised to receive a phone call from Pat just to be sure everything is going well and that there are no questions that were unanswered. Families are taught to communicate by mail, telephone, fax or E-mail and every effort is made to respond as soon as possible.
