Working with your child
Many parents and family members find it easy and even rewarding to work with
their child. Some children however, are accustomed to being in control so
that getting them started and motivated can be a problem. These are not bad
children, they are children who have difficulty learning how to behave
correctly and therefore require special teaching effort.
The CNR certainly recognizes this potential problem with some children.
After many years of experience working on home programs with thousands of
children, we realize the importance of helping those children and parents
who need guidance in this area. We have found that many different
techniques can be effective based on the needs of the individual child and
parent. Generally, the CNR believes that all children can be motivated to
participate in our programs. Teaching your child to respond in more
appropriate ways and to participate successfully in activities that are
beneficial is not like going into battle. When it is necessary, parents
are taught techniques of positive reinforcement, how to be consistent and
how to be in control. It is usually not difficult to do and the results are
rewarding not only in regards to doing our program but for daily living as
well.
